COURSE REQUIREMENT

Students enrolled at OFS will be given a Student Pilot Licence which authorises flight training with a licenced Flight Instructor. Students are required to take examinations stipulated by the DGCA at Chennai (Madras) or other approved centres to qualify for their licence. The exams are conducted at various cities like Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkatta, etc. The detailed exam schedule can be obtained from the Operations Office. The Radio Telephony exam is conducted every three months at the various cities mentioned above.

Those students who are weak in subjects will be given adequate training to prepare them to the required standards. Only after they attain the required standards, they will be permitted to commence flying training.

Medical requirement

DGCA requires students to meet certain medical standards as an admission requirement. This is mandatory for admittance and issue of licence. For PPL, the student has to undergo a medical checkup with a local DGCA approved doctor. However, for CPL, a candidate has to undergo a comprehensive medical checkup either at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine (IAM), Bangalore or the Central Medical Establishment, New Delhi by prior appointment.

Medium of instruction

As per ICAO standards, medium of instruction followed is English. This language is used for all purposes, whether correspondence, lectures or for ATC communication. For those students whose native language is not English and for those who do not demonstrate fluency in the language (less than 60% in their 12th standard) additional language training is provided at extra cost.
