Dr.KCG Memorial Foundation.

In fond memory of our Founder Chairman Dr. KCG Verghese and for the yeomen services he had rendered to the society, a Charitable Foundation has been created in his name. This Memorial Foundation Contributed Rs. 1,00,000/- to Mr. Thamarai Selvan, a II year Student of CSE, K.C.G College of Technology, towards the medical expenses for treating A plastic Anaemia on 11 May 2006.

This issue of "Flywheel" is an expression of our heartfelt desire to engage creatively with the spirit of the times, our opportunity to look back on and share with pride and pleasure all our glorious achievements of the last academic year, yet not to rest on our laurels but put our best foot forward to face the challenges ahead.

Our steps are guided by our awareness that we are going through times of transitions, a society rapidly transforming through technological innovations, opening up opportunities galore and new possibilities that call for well-informed choices.

We welcome your feedback on the quality and content of this issue of "Flywheel", which not only helps us redefine our thinking but all mould our future orientation.

BOOK RELEASE

 

Wheels and wings, the autobiography of late Dr.K.C.G. Verghese, the Founder Chairman of Hindustan Group of Institutions was launched by Shri.PrafulPatel, Hon’ble Union Minister for civil Aviation on 19 June 2006 at Le Royal Meridien, Chennai. His Excellency Shri. L. Bhatia, the Governor of Kerala was the chief Guest and he received a first copy of the book. Shri.G.K.Vasan Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation unveiled the portrait of Dr.K.C.G. Verghese.

The most Rev. Dr. Philipose Mar Chrsotorm, Metropolitan Marthoma Syrain Church presided over the function. Shri. K.V. Mathew, General Manager, BI Publications Pvt. Ltd. felt Privileged to introduce the book. According to him, the book will inspire managers of today to become leaders in their own right. Shri K.P. Unni Krishnan, the former Union Cabinet Minister, Shri Thirunavukkarasar and Shri Dhanushkodi Adhithan, former Union Ministers and presently the Members of Parliment and also Dr. D. Viswanathan, the Vice Chancellor of Anna university praised late Dr. K.C.G. Verghese for his Services to the cause of technical education. I n her Vote of thanks, Mrs. Elizabeth Verghese, Chairperson of the Hindustan Group of Institutions, thanked all and hoped that the alumini would carry on the mission of the late Dr. K.C.G. Verghese and take his motto ‘Make Every Man a Success and No Man a Failure’ into Practice.

 

Convocation 2006 of the Hindustan Group of Institutions was held on July 2006 MGR Hall, Hindustan College of Engineering. The Chief Guest Dr. Baldev Raj, Director, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam delivered the Graduation Day address. He emphasized that everyone in the country is expectantly looking at the youth to take the nation forward to the next level and should learn from the Sucess of others while retaining their originality. He lauded the Vision and efforts of the late Dr.KCG Verghese in establishing many colleges under the Hindustan Group.

On the Convocation day, the Hindustan Group of Institutions Presented the Eminent Entrepreneur Award to Capt. G.R. Gopinath, Managing Director, Air Deccan for his remarkable success in the Airlines Industry in India, Capt. G.R. Gopinath in his acceptance Speech narrated Certain in him, a deep passion for aviation. He stressed that the dreams of the youth should be combined with adventures, Simplicity & Values and these alone would take an entrepreneur to great heights.

The distinguished guests awarded degrees to the graduates and over seventy gold medals were awarded to the University Rank Holders.

Hearty Congratulations.
Mrs. D.Jayalatha, Asst. Professor of Chemistry, Sciences and Humanities department, was awarded Ph.D.degree on November 2006 by Anna University for her work “Studies on Arylidene and Azobenzene Based Photochromic Liquid Crystalline Polymers”.
   
Mr. G. Sankaranarayanan, Senior Lecturer from Mechanical Engineering Department, was awarded Ph.D degree on November 2006 by Anna University for her work “Experimental Investigation on the Use of Non-edible Vegetable Oil as an Alternative Fuel for Diesel Engine”.
   

Prof. Pon Ramalingam, Department of Management Studies, has been elected as the Managing Committee Member of the prestigious Madras Management Association (MMA).

 

Hindustan Welcomes New Staff

 
Lt. Col. A.B.Das has been appointed as the Dean of Architecture, Hindustan College of Engineering, (HCE). Prof Das had Served for two decades in the Indian Armed Forces and was later an Executive Director, South Zone, Housing and Urban Development Corporation.
Dr. N. Sabaapathy has been appointed as the Principal of National Institute of Management Studies (NIMS) He has 30 years of experience and has served in various positions in Tamilnadu Transport Corporation.
Dr. S. Robert Gnanamony has joined as Professor of English S&H Dept., of HCE. A Dedicated and inspiring English language teacher with 33 years of experience, he has authored two books and published 52 research papers in national and internationals journals.
Prof. Rina Basu has joined as Head, Dept. of Architecture HCE. She has 18 years of experience in various Positions as an entrepreneur and faculty member.
Capt . Rakesh Grover has joined as an Asst. Flight Instructor at Orient Flight School (OFS). He Served the Indian coast Guard as Asst. Commandant (G/D Pilot) and later on in Air India as Manager (Flight Despatch), Mumbai for 13 years.
Capt Peter Jeffrey Somers from USA has joined Orient Flight as Pilot - in command on the Beechej - 400 aircraft. He has over 2500hours experience on type.
 

HATS OFF

Hindustan College of Engineering, Padur, was bestowed with GURUKULJYOTI. an Award for Excellence in Education, in a grand function in January 2007. It was adjudged as one of the best 5 educational institutions of the nation in the category of 'Engineering' .

OUTLOOK - The weekly news magazine has conducted a nation wide poll on India's Top 100 Engineering Colleges. Hindustan College of Engineering, Chennai featured as one among them.

AIMA - All India Management Association (AIMA) Conducted a Comprehesive Survey on The Best B-Schools of India" In the Survey, AIMA rated the B- Schools on the Parameters such as Intellectual Capital, Admissions and placements, Infrastructure, Industry Interface and Governance. We are proud to State that the Hindustan Institute of Management Studies (HCE,Chennai) is among 21 Colleges, which were rated as category - A Bussiness Schools.

THE WEEK, news magazine has conducted a "Top College Survey" Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology was rated as No.1 Institution in Tamilnadu in Mechanical Engineering.
